About last week! #2

Another week, another blog post.

I wonder how long these posts are going to be garbage until I decide it’s cool to be vulnerable.  Perhaps, they will be garbage forever.

I’m currently on a two day mini vacation from work so that I can finally design and organize my office. I really want to get back to the end of that lil’ vacation so I can relax for the last bit of it.

This isn’t a great post, but hey, if you’re reading this — I assume you don’t really expect anything from me. (You shouldn’t.)

03/03/17 I’m currently decorating my office and so there’s are SO MANY piles of junk laying everywhere.

About last week...

I wanted to do project 365, but the idea of a project that tells me I have to do something everyday is a total no-go.

But, I do want to document my life more-- I also want to write more. These two things seem to work in the favor of each other.

For the most part, I do imagine most of my photos will be in my office. The good news is that I have a cool office space.

I only have pictures for half of last week. When I decided to start doing this project, I decided to do it immediately and I didn't want to be picky about it. More than anything, I wanted this project to feel natural.

I haven't come up with a name yet, but here are a couple photos from last week!

03/09/17 I'm trying to catch up on The Adventure Zone before I get spoiled on any plot! I've been listening since it started, but y'know.. life.. and other things..

03/11/17 I actually left my office this day, but I didn't bring my camera so here is a photo of a phone picture. I'm a straight up mess.

03/12/17 Switch! I've never been a Zelda fan, but I wanted to play our Switch so here I am. To be fair, I'm having a real good time.

Overtime, I'd like these posts to be more honest and heartfelt, but here's to a first try! ❤

Sketchbook 2016

In 2016, I finally remembered I like art. I like art. Oh my god, wasn't that the only thing I enjoyed doing in high school?  Other than rock'n'roll gender issues and video games, of course.

It was hard to admit to myself that I let good skills go to waste. I was pretty dang good at art in high school. I did/do have a best friend who was a phenomenal artist, so that was always a blow to the ol' self esteem. But, yet, if I kept my nose on my own page and believed in myself, I could have an incredible skill set by now. Luckily, I've learned that I should believe in myself and now is better than never!

2016 is the first year in a long time that I maintained a sketchbook, it's  been around 10 years since I last had one. That said, here are my favorite pages from my various sketchbooks I tried in 2016!

(I have so many half filled sketchbooks now. omg. I should not be so picky about paper and size.)

2017 Word of the Year - Nurture

I wasn’t planning on writing this post at all. I’m currently going through a whole ordeal with myself to figure out if blogging fits into my 2017 goals. Although, I have a sneaking suspicion that depression is trying to run the conversation. Because I’m stubborn-- I’ve decided that blogging is important.

As I said in my last post, New Years is my favorite time to read blogs. It’s one of the few times that I’m not salty over internet creation. It always feels like every creator is doing the same thing and it's over-processed. But, this is the one time it feels natural and heart-felt. (And to be fair, most of my saltiness probably stems from hating my work and projecting it on others, but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.)

I always have the most insane Type A New Years Resolution list. It’s divided in categories and each category has 3-6 goals. The categories change year to year, but I generally have 6 categories. Although, I only try to complete 1/3rd of the goals. The ridiculous list helps me remember what I care about, as I have a tendency to forget.

I have two major goals this year.
- Explore what being healthy means for Liz
- Improve art skillz

Even though 2016 was great, I’ve spent many years letting my mental illness get out of control. I have some emotional rehab to do. That’s where the word of the year comes in, nurture.

Nurture, to me, means taking care and creating a lifestyle that promotes personal well-being. Creating art and learning to take care of my body are two things I've neglected for years. Which is sad, but, it's time to change that.

2016 in review!

It’s weird to know while a year is passing that'll be a year you're nostalgic for.

I started 2016 off miserable-- at a job I hated, in a city I hated, in so much debt and in a long distance relationship. Of course, there were good parts-- like living with my mom and my perfect angel of a dog.

Now it's December 2016, I have a house, an awesome job and everything is probably ok. Of course, I'm ignoring a few setbacks in society as a whole, but hey, this blog is about me.

My favorite posts are always year end posts. I love getting little capsules of friend's and stranger's growth and lifestyles. So, here are my major moments of 2017:

  • Went to PAX South, SDCC, and A-kon. A small number of cons, but maximum impact.
  • Met beloved internet baes in person, like Ben, Harper and Nicole
  • In April, I got my dream job. For real. I work for a company I dreamed of working for in a position I wanted to do.
  • Because of this job, I’ve now been to NYC twice and Washington DC.
  • I had caviar. Well, tater tots dipped in caviar. Luxury.
  • I saw my first Broadway show and it was Hamilton! I got to see it with the majority of the original cast as well. :)

  • I also have a really amazing new group of friends, that just happen to be my coworkers.
  • I got wine wasted at a fancy wine tasting.
  • I took a cooking class and it served to remind me— cooking is terrible, baking is where it’s at.
  • Rekindled my love of illustration and painting. It was something I loved in high school, but forgot about when dating and college happened.
  • Gathered a ridiculous collection of art supplies and finally decided to learn watercolors/gouache.
  • Started playing Guild Wars 2. I spend way too much time and money on this dumb game, but it’s amazing and I love it.

  • Became obsessed with ghost shows and ghosts in general
  • (Bought &) Moved into a beautiful house with the Boyfriend
  • Struggled with routine and productivity in the house (Still so much struggle)
  • Happiness meant I stopped using social media and online creation as an escape, now I’m having a hard time figuring out their place in my life. Especially now that everyone is always sad, it’s so hard to will myself to want to go to Facebook or Twitter. (I’ve actually logged out of Facebook everywhere but work — as I run the work Facebook.)
  • I started reading! This is recent, but I just got a Kindle Voyage and it is changing my entire world.
  • I got way too into tea.
